In my spare time, I am an artist; and I use acrylic paints, soft pastels, oil paints, and watercolors with markers or ink pens. For me, art is sacred. Not only is it a form of self-care, but I get the opportunity to (re)create what I observe happening in the world around me. I also have brought artwork into my teaching, encouraging fellow learners to gain new skills, build upon nonconventional career interests (e.g., art therapy), and express their creativity in alternative learning assessments.
